In response to being asked about how to go deeper with one’s practice with children, we offer these monthly musings as invitations for you. You might take the invitation up
The opportunities are endless.
We will pose these musings monthly, but use them as you feel moved to. You might spend more than a month with one question. Or, you might revisit a question at a later time. Each time you visit or revisit a question, new possibilities emerge.
This month's musing comes from the holistic play-based goal of Communication and Literacies and the facet of Communicative Practices.
"How do adults value and incorporate the languages of the children’s families within your centre and the larger community?
Think about how the home languages of your children’s families are incorporated in the centre through speakers, books, images, songs, visitors, and field trips.
Think about the range of languages valued and spoken by your families - how are these valued and made verbal and visible in your centre?" (Flight, p. 105)

“This free app allows teachers and parents to message each other in their preferred language: The teacher can send out a message in English, and the parent can have it translated into one of over 100 languages. Parents can also respond in their preferred language and it will be translated back for the teacher.” (Cult of Pedagogy, January 2023)
