Monthly Musings - February 2025

February 15, 2025

In response to being asked about how to go deeper with one’s practice with children, we offer these monthly musings as invitations for you. You might take the invitation up

  • as an individual or with your team.
  • at monthly staff meetings.
  • to provoke conversations when feeling stuck.

The opportunities are endless.

We will pose these musings monthly but use them as you feel moved to. You might spend more than a month with one question. Or you might revisit a question at a later time. Each time you visit or revisit a question, new possibilities emerge.

Mighty learner

How we think about children is our image of the child. Malaguzzi (1994) reminds us that our image is how we are with each child in everyday routines, play, and interactions.

When you view the child as a mighty learner, your image directs you to notice the child’s ideas in play, how the child participates with others, seeks to know about the world, persists in daily tasks and endeavors, and cares about themself, others, and the world.

Think about your interactions with each child.

Think about how the child learns to see themself when you see them as a mighty learner.
